Power to the payers by BrokenTeapot Power to the payers by BrokenTeapot
This basically summarizes my personal experience with Gamestop stores. I don't know why the ones I go to seem to be really stingy, but it's starting to get very annoying. >:I

I got $10 each for trading in older Pokémon games. Bought a steam card. Bought MvM tickets in TF2 with said Steam card. Won an Australium Grenade Launcher with said MvM tickets. Sold said Australium Grenade Launcher for an Australium Black Box. Profit.

This hapoens occasionally at my local GameStop...three times. I swear, the next time that happens, I'll punch the cashier.

So true on this, you'd really have to have one or two of HIGHER Value.

For everything else and those, one word: "ebay".

Called me weird, but the guys at Gamestop in my town were never like this. (Notice that I'm from Sweden)

I was even lucky to get a PS2 plus 5 FREE games with controllers and memory card, all for only 200 Krons! (AKA 20 US Dollar)

Am starting to hate Game Stop too there stuff is poorly made and they charge WAY to much money for videos games and when you sell them you don't get a good deal on what you sell them or you don't get any money from the Video Game at all!!!:iconangryplz:

I took in a decently almost brand new 360 game got maybe a few uses out of it before I went to give it back. I didn't even get 5 unless I wanted store credit. Gamestop is ridiculous

One day, I bought Luigis Mansion at GameStop for $7. I sold the game there the next week. The worker gave me $4 and sold the game for $15.

seriously?! Man im sorry, Gamestop Sucks :( The one I go to Doesn't even sell gamecube or PS2 games anymore! and the Gamecube was awesome
Kesoroda-MKB Featured By Owner Jan 28, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
That's because they're classed as "legacy" consoles. Fortunately, they still carry most of the accessories like Gamecube/wii compatiable controllers, and few of them STILL carry older games.

I got PS2 games for less than $2-5 (some NEW), though the one I went to was near a Wal Mart or somethin'. I guess that means don't shop in your usual game stores if you want 'em old titles!
ookami-kuchioshii Featured By Owner Sep 29, 2013

Yep. It seems like they don't sell anything made before 2006 nowadays. The Gamestop closest to me doesn't even sell Gamecube games anymore. :(

There is a Gamestop at a distant mall I could go to...

Fortunatley I recently found a gamestore called Gamecraze (there are 3 locations in New York, but I'm not sure if they're anywhere else) that sells new games and classic games. I was able to buy Final Fantasy IX there, and a Gameboy Color game! And the place is a 15 minute bike ride away.

Sorry I feel like I'm bragging.

You're not bragging. Thanks for the news and such.
ookami-kuchioshii Featured By Owner Oct 25, 2013
You're welcome :)
Hate this too, I fill they do this cause they feel they stand to lose more then they make (Really a game that's $50 at the moment should give you back at least $30, NOT FUCKING $7.50, I wait till they have a special before I trade, Like this DS game I bought was still 34.99, But they wanted to give me $3 for it, the next day they had a special where trading certain games which that DS game was on the list would give me $25 for it, Luck I didn't trade it before otherwise I would have got chump change for it then, But still to low trade rate is just there way to get you to reserve games with them, I mean I can understand lowering thee rate if you ask for cash, But they need to change the difference between how much you get if you go for credit (cause really you can only use that credit in THEIR STORES) It's not like their losing anything so they need to up the rate like I said before a game should rate at least 50%-60% from how much their selling it if you go for credit and 20%-30% if you want cash, Not 10% for Credit and 1%-5% for cash that's just REALLY REALLY STUPID in my opinion)

Game sales of our days is kinda dumb.(I'm a gamer! So I don't abuse gaming)
But it's just that, when you buy a game, buying just one can cost you up to 50$!!
LeonCreed Featured By Owner Jan 19, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I remember buying a game, and it wouldn't work. It cost 25 dollars at the time. I brought it back, with the receipt and all. They wanted to give me 10 dollars. Was pissed, I told them. " I just bought this yesterday, it doesn't work. I have the reciept right here!" needless to say, they wouldn't give me my money back or equal credit.
aguycalledbaldur Featured By Owner Jan 11, 2012

You think thats bad?

A video store near where i live would only give me like...2.25 for 5 games...(a mix of Xbox and Gamecube games)

So...25cents per game.....Plus gamestop won't buy original xbox games :/

I remember I went to gamestop once to sell some games. I got about 80 dollars for all of them, in cash, I think. But there was a lot.
apeman505 Featured By Owner Aug 14, 2011
This is why I never trade games in. I shall hoard them greedily, playing them every day until I die, then my prodigy shall sell them in a bundle to some future civilization's gaming museum for $$7 million. ($7.50 in present day currency.)

I went there 3 hours ago and i got $110 for all of them. But it was store credit.
RyuseiHikari Featured By Owner Jul 27, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
if your asking for cash that's why... but try a different one or a guy from there more desperate, I sold my copy of Portal two to the freaking manager at a game stop who gave me the store credit prices for the game cuz i needed cash (plus after beating the game... didn't really wanna pick it up again...) but he had to do it off camera so i guess it depends which one you go to.
Nakithepaper Featured By Owner Jul 18, 2011
I have to say that I feel sorry for you in that situation. I typically get to know my gamestop clerks really well so I get some deals. It happens when you live in the birthplace of Gamestop (or rather have lived) Texas :D

I hate it when that happens. That's why I go to Gamers. At least they have a huge collection of old school games, and they can get pretty much any game I ask for. Except Castlevania 4 for snes; they don't seem to have that one.:(
dudeifail Featured By Owner Jul 7, 2011
I know what you mean; the one that used to be the best about money (sold about 10 games during a 50% and got around $70) is now amazingly stingy; I tried selling 7 gamecube games and was only going to get about $7.00 during a 50% bonus. and with a membership card. And as a reference point, Pokemon Diamond was worth $10, had I chose to sell it. During the frigging bonus deal!

I feel your pain, brother.
Wynxern Featured By Owner Jul 9, 2011  Student Digital Artist
Oh gee, could be because gamecubes games are like... Fucking old and no one really plays them anymore because the Gamecube is not a part of the latest game generation?

Want to sell your video games? You do it as early as possible or wait till said console becomes a part of Angry Video Game Nerd material.
